f test

1. common uses

  • Consider a collection of populations. All populations are normally distributed with the same variance. We can use the F-test to test the hypothesis that all populations have the same mean. Under the hypothesis that all populations have the same mean, the test statistic follows the F-distribution. Note that this test tells you whether or not there exists population with a mean different than the others, not which one it is.
